ASSISTANCE DOG TRAINING FOR THE MOBILE DISABLED

How can a mobility assistance dog help?Such a specially trained companion, by providing physical and emotional support, creates greater independence for its disabled owner. With its constant willingness to help, it provides security and self-confidence.Physical assistance:

  • Moving objects: picking up dropped objects (e.g. keys, coins, leashes, etc.), removing and bringing objects from inaccessible places (e.g. from shelves, floors, remote controls, bags, blankets, towels, etc.), sending objects (e.g. shopping carts at the pharmacy, etc.), throwing away trash (e.g. putting bottles in the trash, etc.)
  • Providing security: calling for help (finding a person to provide assistance and leading them to the owner), providing telephone access (e.g., requesting, bringing in, sending, etc.), operating an emergency alarm system (operating the alarm button).
  • Personal assistance: dressing (e.g. helping with coat, sweater, gloves, shoes, bringing in a towel, etc.).
  • Transportation: opening and closing doors (keeping doors that close when passing through a door stable and closed), operating light switches, ensuring a stable position (e.g. in icy road conditions).

Spiritual help:

  • Continuously available help, without feeling vulnerable!
  • Unconditional acceptance: Master love, free from prejudice and independent of injury.
  • Positive reception: scientific studies also support that a disabled person who walks with an assistance dog receives positive discrimination and attention is diverted from their disability.
  • Belonging to a group: the owner-dog pair remains in constant contact with the training organization, and a close bond is formed with other assistance dog owners during joint camping trips and dog sports activities.
  • Long-term therapeutic effect: the presence of a supportive partner provides a continuous positive emotional effect (10-12 years).
